Coilin O'Hainey
Mr. Colin O’Hainey, the founder of Black Diamond Custom Motors, had a very successful, diverse, business background, which stems from being involved in Motorsports and the automotive industry in a large capacity since 1992. His experience ranges from mechanical repair, performance upgrading, autobody design, styling, vehicle customization marketing and re-selling. It’s this business acumen coupled with entrepreneurial drive spread across a myriad of industries that propels Mr. O'Hainey & BDCM toward international success.
Sales, Marketing And PR Firm
Mr. O'Hainey has been a serial entrepreneur for the vast majority of his professional career. In the late 90's he founded a “Contract Sales, Marketing and Public Relations Consultant Firm”, and worked closely with major brand labels such as Guinness, Budweiser, Heineken, Jack Daniels, Tennets Lager and Green Isle Frozen Foods, which laid the professional base for his next venture.
1999 proved to be a unique year for Mr. O’Hainey as he played an integral part of a team that assisted the state owned Telecom Eireann privatize and become Eircom, which led to the ultimate privatization and deregulation of Ireland’s Telecom Industry.
Mr. O’Hainey’s skills quickly became in high demand, which resulted in his working with Eircell (Vodafone today), Esat Telecom, Euphony and First Link Communications to create and manage nation wide sales teams in the midst of competing companies fighting for their share of a new market.
Charitable Fundraising
Mr. O’Hainey’s career furthered when he worked for one Ireland’s most reputable charitable fundraising companies, Rehab Lotteries Limited, and helped launch the United Kingdom’s Lotto in Ireland. The Rehab Group works and contributes in local communities to provide high-quality services in health and social care, training, education, rehabilitation and employment, including commercial services in not only Ireland, but also Scotland, the Netherlands, Poland and England.
Coilin O'Hainey Unplugged
I am going to share with you my 20 years of preparation I have put into this dream and how it has come to reality.
While I’ve resided in the United State for approximately 7 years, traveling between New York and California, my background is that of the rural midlands in a small village where the mindset rather restricts “young bucks with big ideas”.
This is the kind of place where the “American Dream” is only for those on the TV, and for the long lost cousin born in the U.S. who comes to the homeland every 20 years or so to get in “touch” with his roots, which generally means drinking lots of Guinness, looking for leprechauns and the occasional rub on the Blarney Stone.
I grew up with Motorsport being my main pastime, and when you love what you do its not work anymore. Being around Motorsport and customizing all my life has given me a great understanding of the difficulties consumers go through in this kind of market. Customizing vehicles is very time consuming, inconvenient and expensive for the average consumer.
There wasn't a lot of money around growing up in Ireland, so every male was considered a handyman and expected to be able to fix anything, which, ironically, fits well as most males in the country believe they can fix anything they see the first time, and without manuals or instructions. In fact, it’s widely believed in Ireland that manuals are for amateurs.
I’m laughing because this is so true.
I grew up breaking and fixing things from an early age, eventually buying and selling motorcycles and cars, financed by a loan from my granny when I was eleven. I guess you could say my granny was my first investor.
A Simple Moto For Success
I had a simple model. Always be first with the Autotrader. Be the first to call the seller and the first to arrive with cash. Make a low ball offer, flash the cash, negotiate the best price depending on how desperate the seller was that day and take the vehicle home, usually for much less then what it was advertised for. Buy low, modify and sell high and always buy vehicles in demand, a very simple moto for success. Next, I would put the vehicle for sale the minute I brought it home, and would carry out the modification while lining up buyers.
It was hugely successful. So successful was the business that I left school and trained in all types of mechanics. I specialized in cars, motorcycle, marine and heavy machinery, including electric and auto body / paint before leaving to become a serial entrepreneur. Eventually I had the only aftermarket accessory shop in the midlands Ireland and created some very original show cars that gained praise form industry leaders.
I have spent the past 20 years gaining the knowledge and resources to take this to a global market. I want to grow it as a brand eventually moving into other industries and developing new technologies.
Based on the advice of a prominent NYC business man I admired, I started working in the finance industry and learned about corporate finance, trade credit and business lines of credits, knowledge that I found to be invaluable for BDCM..
I have been fortunate to be able to surrounded myself with all the best and most passionate people I know.
